
Introduction to Acting 1 (Ages 4-5) Saturdays,9:00 am-9:45 am
This introductory dramatics class, designed for the youngest actors, explores the most basic elements of acting and creative expression. Through simple theater games, puppetry, story acting (i.e. The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs) speech/diction exercises, and stage movement, students will:
- Develop imagination and creativity
- Explore Voice and Body as instruments of communication
- Develop listening skills
- Learn to follow simple directions
- Improve attention and focus
- Learn to compromise and work with others
- Become more comfortable “performing” in front of others
- Improve self-esteem and confidence
Introduction to Acting 2 (Ages 6-7) Saturdays, 9:45 am- 10:30 am
This higher level introductory dramatics class, designed for young actors, reviews and expands concepts taught in Introduction to Acting 1, increasing skill levels. In addition to more advances games, exercises, puppetry, story acting, speech and movement training, students will be introduced to simple scene work with the most basic concept of “objective,” blocking, stage directions, more advanced voice exercises and breathing techniques for speaking. In addition to the above goals, students will:
- Begin to develop “control” of voice and body as instruments of communication
- Expand listening skills
- Learn to follow more complex directions
- Increase attention span and focus
- Improve memory skills
- Begin to “learn” dialogue and use it in a simple scene in order to accomplish an objective
- Increase comfort level “performing” in front of others
Acting 1 (Ages 8-10) Saturdays 10:30 am-11:15 am
This more advanced dramatics class, designed for young actors, moves students out of the “fairy tale” stories into more in-depth scene work, skits and short plays. Through higher level acting games, beginning improv exercises, directed script work and taking notes, character development training, and more advanced stage movement and voice/diction drills, students will:
- Improve ”control” of voice and body as instruments of communication and character development
- Further expand listening skills and apply them to “talking and listening” techniques with other characters in a scene
- Improve ability to follow direction and take/apply notes
- Further exercise and expand attention, focus and memory
- “Learn” more complex dialogue and use it to accomplish objectives and develop a character
- Begin to use the voice and body/ movement to develop character
- Improve diction/enunciation and voice projection
- Develop more advanced creative thinking
- Improve audition and rehearsal techniques in preparation for potential participation in Gemini or other professional theater productions.
